Welcome! This site is for anyone who wants to support Bill Martin. See “Bill’s Ill,” below, for an overview of his situation and why your support is so valuable.
Navigate with the buttons above: the Home page is the actual blog where newsy items are posted. Donate has lots of options for those who might want to help Bill out by contributing money, time, or stuff. Events will list any fundraising occasions in the works. You can tell Stories on Bill by using the comment form on that page, and you can send replies to others’ stories, too. Write Dave and Martha at billsbuddies@gmail.com to contribute Pictures, or news for the Home page, or a fundraising event for the Events page. We can also give you authoring privileges if you’d like to be a regular contributor to the blog. By the way, the header photo above is by Charles Espey — here’s the original.
Bill’s Ill
Bill’s undergoing treatment to minimize Multiple Myeloma – a kind of blood cancer. Right now he’s ridding his body of as many of these MM cells as possible, and then they’ll extract some stem-cells and stick them in the freezer. In the fall he’ll be a bubble-boy as they kill off the rest of his stem cells, down to zero, and then re-infuse his thawed stem-cells that have been languishing in his freezer next to the frozen peas and half-full ice trays.
Who’ll Help?
This tidy procedure will give us many more years of Bill, but it’s going to cost an arm and a leg. And he doesn’t just need your pocket change, he needs your hugs and kisses, too.
We Will!
We hope to keep Bill from worrying overmuch about his finances as the doctors drain not just his stem cells but his pocketbook, too. There are lots of ways to support Bill, and this site aims to be the hub of that effort. Here you can make donations, make a pledge to send a small amount his way every month, or share stories and photos about Bill.
